On today’s Days of our Lives, Stefan DiMera emerged from his deprogramming session with restored feelings for his ex…but he doesn’t want to just give up his current squeeze.
In addition to Stefan’s dating dilemma, there was Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) missing out on his chance at happiness with Stephanie (Abigail Klein), Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) signing away her marriage to Xander (Paul Telfer), and Xander putting Sarah in his rearview mirror. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.
In the secret room in the tunnels running underneath the DiMera house, Gabi frantically tried to ascertain whether or not Stefan was back to his old self again. He recognized her and didn’t call her a bitch, so that was a start. Then, slowly but surely, it seemed that the love of her life was indeed in possession of his full faculties.
But was Stefan just playacting? Telling Gabi what she wanted to hear so that she’d untie him? Dr. Rolf (Richard Wharton) sure seemed to think so. Stefan, however, was adamant. He loves Gabi. Has nothing but loving feelings for her. And he’s really, really sorry that he spoke so unkindly to her when he wasn’t himself.

Still, Gabi needed proof. Why not kiss me and decide for yourself, suggested Stefan. Gabi did just that. Joy of joys! It seems like she has her Stefan back.
Meanwhile, upstairs in the mansion proper, Anna (Leann Hunley) greeted Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin), who’d swung by to tell Stefan that it was probably a good idea that they break up. The women’s convo was interrupted by a call from Statesville — it’s Vivian (Louise Sorel) checking in to see if all is well with her son.
After sussing out what the madwoman is saying, Anna and Chloe race to Stefan’s side and yell at Gabi and Rolf for putting him through such an ordeal.
Stefan was mighty happy to see Choe. Not as happy as he was to see Gabi, but equally so. Gabi didn’t appreciate that, nor did she appreciate Stefan announcing that he was as in love with her as he was with Chloe!
Alex has a note of apology, a bunch of roses, and his best wounded-puppy-dog face on — time to go and visit Stephanie and make things right with her. But first, a brief check-in with his good buddy Allie (Lindsay Arnold).
Though the chat initially bums Alex out — what with Allie admitting she and Chanel (Raven Bowens) are on a break and all — his spirits end up bolstered when Allie says that she thinks Stephanie will definitely forgive him.
Alex really needed to hear that. Alex also really needed to get going, and since Allie didn’t want to take him up on his offer to play couples counselor — despite him once taking a psychology class and reading a whole bunch of articles on relationships — he does just that.
But what should Alex find when he pushes open the already ajar door to Stephanie’s apartment but Stephanie and Chad (Billy Flynn) making out? How was Alex to know that only minutes before Chad had confessed to Stephanie that he finally felt ready — well, ready-ish — to give the two of them a shot? How was Alex to know that Stephanie had practically jumped Chad’s bones after admonishing him for waiting so damned long — and practically pushing her, unwillingly, into Alex’s arms?
Quiet as a church mouse, Alex exited unseen, ditching the flowers and his missive on his way down the hallway. With passions burning brightly, Stephanie and Chad retired to her bedroom, where they made love.
Bonnie (Judi Evans) wasn’t the least bit pleased to hear that Sarah and Xander were getting a divorce. Not even slightly. She was so upset, in fact, that she swiped the papers Sarah had just gotten Xander to sign and threatened to tear them to shreds and eat what remains.
Go ahead, taunted Sarah, she can always get Bonnie’s husband to draw her up another copy. And another. And another. Eventually, Bonnie would get tired of munching on them. Fine, huffed Bonnie. She’d just been doing it for love. True love. The kind of love that Sarah and Xander have for one another.
Maybe then, sniffled Sarah. But this is the here and now, and she can’t stand the thought of being married to such a despicable, disloyal man. She wanted free of Xander, and that’s that. But even after adding her own signature to the documents, she seems unsure.
After prying his lips off of Gwen’s (Emily O’Brien), Xander demanded that she prove she wasn’t wearing a wire. Gwen refused, but she did slap Xander soundly across his handsome face. That’s what he gets for daring to doubt her loyalty. Doesn’t he know what she’s sacrificed for him? Well, let her tell him. Her home. Her job. Her relationship with Jack (Matthew Ashford). Poof! All gone. And all because she insisted on staying loyal to him.
Xander is shook. He’s also spurred into having an epiphany. It’s Gwen, it’s always been Gwen. It’s Gwen who’s always accepted him for who he is. It’s Gwen who’s never judged him. She’s the one he should be making a life with…and making love to.
