A Murder Minded Steve Johnson Recruits Roman And John

On today’s Days of our Lives, Steve Johnson successfully pitches his buddies on revenging themselves — not to mention avenging their fallen beloveds — against their mutual foe.

Days of our Lives Recap Highlights

In addition to Steve’s suggestion, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) realized that she’d lost Xander (Paul Telfer) for good, and the devious Devil got Marlena (Deidre Hall), Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), and Kate (Lauren Koslow) exactly where it wanted them. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into what exactly happened.

Steve Johnson Floats Murdering Orpheus

One minute John (Drake Hogestyn) is flashbacking to happier times with Marlena, and the next, he’s watching Steve (Stephen Nichols) toss a lovely couple out of the Brady Pub. Luckily the twosome is furnished with to-go toast, their glasses of orange juice, and a promise that the next day’s breakfast will be Roman’s (Josh Taylor) treat.

Just what in the hell is Steve doing, wonders Roman. Those were paying customers.

Steve issues an apology, plops some money down on the table and gets down to the matter at hand — which is convincing Roman and John that they should outright kill Orpheus (George DelHoyo).

Roman is aghast. Granted, it’s been a long, long time since he wore the badge, but he still remembers that murder is illegal. John, meanwhile, is easily swayed.

After all, Steve had tried once before to get him on board with such a plan, and he refused, and now Marlena, Kayla, and Kate are dead. It’s possible that if he’d just thrown his all behind his bestie, rather than talk him down, their respective loved ones would still be among the living.

Having had a good think on the matter, Roman finally agrees that, “making damn sure that Orpheus never hurts another living soul,” is a mighty fine prospect.

DOOL Recap: It’s Xander And Gwen Against The World

Though not surprised, Sarah is disgusted to hear Xander admit that he and Gwen spent the night together…and that they didn’t just sleep side by side.

Good going, Sarah declared to her ex, adding that he’d manage to hurt her in the worst way possible. Here they are, only hours removed from signing divorce papers, and Xander’s already run back to the woman who did her utmost to keep them apart.

Were Gwen’s actions something that Xander forgot? Did it slip his mind that she was party to Sarah’s crisis on DiMera Island? How about that time Gwen slipped into the hospital and sabotaged the drug that was poised to restore Sarah’s memory? How could he possibly forgive and forget all that?

No matter. Sarah didn’t really care anyway. She was just happy that she extricated herself from such a lowdown, dirty dog. Xander and Gwen deserve each other. And they have Sarah’s pity.

But there’s more to the story. Sarah may say that she’s through with Xander and happy about the fact, but her silently weeping over a snapshot of them in happier times belies her true feelings.

Meanwhile, Xander and Gwen decide that they’re tired of kowtowing and apologizing to all and decide that it will be more fun — and much more lucrative — to strike out against the multitude of hypocritical Salemites and get one over on them. Watch out folks — these scoundrels are going on a tear!

The Devil Gets One Over On Marlena, Kayla, and Kate

Who knew that there would be so much unnecessary bureaucracy in the Great Beyond? First, Kate had to convince Purgatory’s very own Judge Jordan Ridgeway (Chrishell Stause) that she was worthy of redemption — and that was no easy feat considering the Clyde Weston-sized grudge that Jordan holds against Kate — then she had to put her Jane Hancock on a document swearing that argument that she made was the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help her God (literally!).

At the same exact moment, Adrienne (Judi Evans) appeared to Kayla to both calm her sister-in-law’s fears that Steve would be lost without her — turns out Sweetness had cause to be concerned — and to get her to sign a form relinquishing her earthly life and pledging her immortal soul to God.

The rub? That wasn’t Jordan, nor was that Adrienne. Merely the Devil in disguise. And it was also Satan, clad in a Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk) suit, that tricked Marlena into authorizing…something. Marlena was under the impression that the document would get her one step closer to reuniting with deceased loved ones — think DJ and OG Samantha and Tom and Alice Horton — but no dice.

Something Evil is afoot in wherever Marlena, Kayla, and Kate currently reside, and apparently, they’ve given their proxies to the ultimate Big Bad.
