There’s still one full week of Olympic coverage left to go, but that shouldn’t preclude you from getting your Days of our Lives fix. Today, we’re taking a look back at all the previous DAYS cliffhangers that preceded an Olympic Game.
Athens 2004 Olympic Games
On the island of Melaswen, Jennifer Deveraux (Melissa Reeves) goes into premature labor, while exes Roman Brady (Josh Taylor) and Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) begin to rekindle their romantic spark.
Back in Salem, psychotic Jan Spears (Heather Lindell) continues to taunt her prisoner, Shawn Douglas Brady (Jason Cook), with “proof” that his beloved Belle (Martha Madison) has cheated on him with Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson), while mourners John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) found passionate comfort in each other’s arms.
Across the globe, somewhere in Vienna, songbird Chloe Lane’s (Nadia Bjorlin) limousine careens off a rain-slick road, leaving Brady Black (Eric Martsolf), with whom she’s conversing via cellphone, to wonder if his beloved has suffered an untimely death!
London 2012 Olympic Games
A gaggle of dressed-to-impress Salemites attend a gala supporting Autism research. In the tunnels running beneath the venue, the hunt is on for an abducted Melanie Jonas (Molly Burnett). In a warehouse nearby, EJ Dimera (then James Scott, now Dan Feuerriegel), a framed man planning to do a runner, bids Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) adieu.
A cataclysmic explosion nearly levels the tunnels – resulting in severe injuries for Melanie’s would-be rescuers, Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and Brady Black, as well as Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus), the secret mastermind behind the kidnapping scheme.
Upstairs, the reverberations from the explosion result in wanton destruction; and while the majority of the party’s attendees are merely blackened and bruised, Abigail Deveraux finds herself trapped inside a faulty elevator poised to drop several floors.
Sami finds herself in a similar predicament when the catwalk she’s balancing on gives way, and the only thing keeping her from plummeting to the cement floor below is EJ’s helping hands!
Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games
Abigail is dead – one of the unlucky few claimed in an airplane downing…or so crafty Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) would have her loved ones believe! Opposite this, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) and Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) learn that Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) has been ousted from the post of District Attorney, and slimy DiMera yes-man Aiden Jennings has replaced him!
Which cliffhanger do you remember best? Which one’s your favorite? And how do the above three rate in relation to the most recent one aired in conjunction with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games? Be sure to let us know in the comment section below.
