As soon as Lani Price Grant found out that her biological father, TR Coates, was the one who shot and put her husband, Eli Grant, in a coma, she hightailed it to her mother, Paulina Price’s, house on Days of our Lives.

TR (William Christian) was there, having just attacked Lani’s (Sal Stowers) beloved real father, Abe Carver (James Reynolds). Lani took one look at TR, took out her service revolver…and shot him. Dead. Did she make the right call? What do you think of Lani’s split-second decision:

Who needs pesky things like judges, juries, due process, and Miranda rights when Lani can make her own judgments, almost half of the audience 50% shrugs. Eli told her what happened, and the tiny fact that he’d just been shot and was unconscious for weeks didn’t even slow Lani down to consider whether his memory could be trusted. She had a gun, TR needed to die. What else was she supposed to do?

You understand where Lani is coming from as a daughter, 41% of fans concur, but she’s also a cop, and what she did is exactly what promoted all those protests last summer. Cops do not have the right to circumvent due process and decide who deserves to live and who deserves to die. She was absolutely wrong, and she must be held accountable.

DAYS: Follow the Rules

A scant 9% feel compelled to point out that TR wasn’t armed, and he was not a direct threat to Lani at that moment. She had absolutely no justification for drawing her weapon and shooting an unarmed civilian. Yes, he’d threatened Paulina (Jackée Harry) in the past, but Lani didn’t see that, so can’t claim she was saving her mother’s life. You screwed up, and there is no excuse.
