Days of our Lives wisely tied Jada Hunter, played by Elia Cantu to the gone-but-never-forgotten Dr. Marcus Hunter when she made her Salem debut nearly two years ago. After all, soaps are all about families. Soap Hub chatted with Cantu at the Daytime Emmys earlier this month about her character’s maternal origins and to speculate on who her TV mom might be!

Mother’s Day

“There’s been a little reference to her,” the actress teases about Jada’s mom, adding that we know that she “is alive and she’s around.”

Cantu not only has an idea as to who could play her DAYS mom should the show happen to write her on, but it just so happens that the actress she has in mind has been on DAYS before — at the same time her Jada’s dad Marcus (the late Richard Biggs) was. Viewers recall that Marcus was friends with both Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and he had some love interests, too.

Crazy Like a Fox

“I would love [it to be] Vivica A. Fox [ex-Maya, Generations; ex-Stephanie, Young and the Restless],” Cantu says. “I think she would make an amazing addition.”

In 1988, Fox did some episodes on DAYS as Carmen Silva — and Carmen had a thing with Marcus! There’s another bit of backstory that would make a Fox/Cantu familial tie feel just right. The two have met before.

“It was honestly a chance moment,” Cantu says. The two were at a film location that was wrapping up. “We were both eating at the same spot, and it was just one of those serendipitous moments. We had a great connection, and we have a fabulous photo [of us] together.”

Soap Hub‘s not hearing of any plans that DAYS has to bring on Jada’s mom so, for now, this should all be filed in the “wouldn’t-it-be-great-to-see-someday” folder. However, Elia Cantu says if Jada’s mom does come on, she’s love for the role to be played by Fox. “She’s iconic,” Cantu says of Fox, “and she’s a legend, and I just think she would be such a great [addition to the show].”
