On the April 17 Days of Our Lives episode, Paulina’s mama bear urge took over and she rushed off to find Chanel, who was missing in a snowstorm.
Dire Ramifications For Everyone
Paulina (Jackée Harry) absconded from the hospital isolation room where she had been convalescing after intense radiation treatment. Despite having been given several warnings that her now irradiated body could endanger others who aren’t wearing hazmat gear, she disobeyed doctors’ orders and rushed off to rescue Chanel (Raven Bowens).
Although the emergency workers couldn’t get to Smith Island, Paulina somehow got control of a snow plow and made her way to the cabin. There, she spoke to Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) who was concerned about the radiation, and Paulina told her to stay away. Despite the potentially deadly hazard, Paulina ran out into the blizzard to find her daughter. Some time later, Paulina came stumbling in, while helping Chanel, who had slipped in the snow and sprained her ankle on some rocks. She had heard her mother’s voice and thought it was an angel at first.
Meanwhile, Marlena (Deidre Hall) discovered Paulina’s absence and told John (Drake Hogestyn) about it, warning that the mayor was radioactive. Figuring she would be making a beeline to the cottage, he called the emergency services to give them the heads up about Paulina’s situation.
After Johnny returned to the cabin to see Chanel there, he was shocked when he saw Paulina, but grateful that she rescued his new bride. However, things got worrisome when Julie disappeared in an effort to help find Chanel, but fortunately, she turned up unscathed later.
It’s good that this story didn’t get dragged out any further than necessary, but Paulina may have made a grave error. Having been warned that the radiation could affect others, she didn’t care and even held Chanel tightly as they returned to the cabin. By exposing everyone to a potentially deadly dose of radiation, this story may have far-reaching ramifications down the line.
Johnny himself is a cancer survivor, so no one knows if the radiation might trigger it again. Chanel is young and healthy, but since Paulina had cancer, genetics might not be in her favor. And Julie’s in her twilight years, so it’s unknown what the radiation she was exposed to will do. (Click here to learn more about Paulina’s treatment.)
Setting aside the silliness of Paulina magically getting to the cabin, and the fact that her “isolation” room was just a regular hospital room with no apparent radiation shielding, DAYS might have an interesting tale of the effects Johnny, Chanel, and Julie will experience in the near future (if at all).
