Melinda pulled a blackmail magic trick out of thin air on the June 3 episode of Days of Our Lives. Meanwhile, EJ helped Sloan get away, hoping it was for the last time.
Melinda Got the Upper Hand on Rafe
Things weren’t looking too good for Melinda (Tina Huang) when Rafe (Galen Gerring) came to arrest her for kidnapping. Denying the allegations, she claimed that IF she knew anything about the baby swap, she could only be charged with being an accessory to the crime. However, she had an ace up her sleeve that no one could have predicted: She had Clyde’s book and hid it away for safekeeping. Explaining to Rafe that if he wants to clear his sister Gabi for Li’s (Remington Hoffman) murder, he would need the book to do it and thus would have to deal with her.
Surprise of all surprises, Melinda managed to avoid being arrested and even worked out an immunity deal with Rafe, agreeing to give him the book when he needed it. This baby swap story continues to get convoluted, with people blackmailing people and stories changing more often than Jude’s (Oliver McLarty) diapers. Even Roman (Josh Taylor) and Kate (Lauren Koslow) were reading Leo (Greg Rikaart) the riot act for blackmailing Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) and keeping quiet about the truth. But Leo managed to kinda sorta talk his way out of it, and his witty, rapid-fire banter had a smirk on Roman’s face — Taylor probably had a hard time not bursting into laughter while filming those scenes, which were brilliantly acted by Rikaart.
Sloan Got Away Yet Again
Meanwhile, Sloan tried leaving the DiMera mansion after her altercation with Nicole (Arianne Zucker), but Eric (Greg Vaughan) stopped her, and Nicole left a message for Rafe. Another one who tried talking her way out of the situation, Sloan, was about to reveal that Eric is Jude’s bio-dad, but EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) interrupted at the last second. He told Eric to get ice for Nicole’s hand (bruised from slugging Sloan) while he grabbed the scheming lawyer and pulled her outside. There, he told her in no uncertain terms that she must disappear, keep the secret, and never return…or else.
Pretending that she knocked him unconscious, Eric found EJ on the ground. When he “awoke,” he lied and claimed she hit him on the head and sent Eric off in a different direction than where she actually went. Sloan then reemerged, and EJ told her never to darken his doorstep again. If there were awards for acting within the reality of the soap, EJ should win because he constantly lies and always seems so sincere while concealing the truth. Feuerriegel’s performance was top-notch, as he fought desperately to keep anyone from knowing the truth about Eric and hold his marriage to Nicole together. He even further bribed Leo with a song and dance about how he initially kept Nicole in the dark until he could “confirm” that Jude was theirs. The holes these characters have been digging themselves into keep getting deeper, and it’s gonna take more than a firefighter’s ladder truck to get everyone out.
