Linsey Godfrey’s Days of Our Lives character, Sarah, was recently in a hit-and-run accident and became paralyzed from the waist down. The actress recently opened up about a real-life incident that is strangely parallel to what Sarah is going through and how it affected her on set.

Real Life Car Accident Mirrored Sarah’s Plight

TMZ reported in February 2015 that DAYS star Godfrey, who at the time was playing Caroline on The Bold and the Beautiful, was walking down the street, got hit by a car, and was pinned under it. In the horrible incident, she also broke both her legs. Now that Sarah can’t walk, the actress is having to go through scenes that remind her of her true life accident.

She told Daily Drama recently that after Sarah recovered and realized she couldn’t walk, the character had to use a wheelchair, which brought back horrific memories for her. She worried that Sarah was going to be killed off and was also reminded that while her character had a baby, she had a seven-month-old daughter when her legs were broken. Seeing the wheelchair on set was distressing, as she remarked, “Getting back in once again was just really, really, really triggering.”

Cast and Crew Helped Her Through It

Once she sat in it to get ready for the scene, she began sobbing and noted, “I don’t like crying in front of people. Linsey’s tears are not Sarah’s tears. Reliving that trauma was difficult.” Even having to wear a neck brace brought back traumatic memories of the incident, and she explained that if the scenario was written as something other than a car accident, “I would have been okay, but yeah, it was really, really, really hard.”

Thankfully, everyone working on the show was sensitive to her needs, and she was even offered the services of a therapist. They helped to get her through the difficult scenes, knowing what she had been through outside of work. She commended their efforts, adding, “For something that was so hard to do, they definitely were on my side with doing it.”
