It’s been quite a long time since Days of Our Lives fans saw Michael Sabatino play Lawrence Alamain. Since 1997, he’s been married to his DAYS co-star, Crystal Chappell, who played Carly Manning. In 2021, the couple announced the good news that they had a grandchild on the way. Sadly, in September 2024, Chappell announced on social media that Sabatino had Parkinson’s disease. Now, they have an update on Sabatino’s condition.

His Good Health Works in His Favor

Chappell posted two pics on X, formerly Twitter, one of which was the logo for Stanford Health Care Medical Center, and the other was of a sign reading, “Parkinson’s Foundation | Center of Excellence.” She captioned them matter-of-factly with, “Michael has Parkinsons.” She then reassured everyone that he was doing fine with, “He’s just fine Folks. We feel blessed and ready for tomorrow. Meanwhile, to quote him, he makes a “Fine” martini with that right hand…😅.”

Sabatino and Chappell were interviewed by Swooon recently, with Chappell gladly remarking, “He’s doing well.” Sabatino agreed, explaining that he felt good. He added, “I have a really good doctor at Stanford [Medicine]. He’s given me meds that kind of control any type of tremors. I’m lucky because I’m in really good shape. I’m pretty strong.” He also noted that balance can be a challenge for those with Parkinson’s, so he does Yoga with Chappell as well as some balancing exercises.

Calm Is Their New Vibe

Michael J. Fox, star of many successful TV shows and films like the Back to the Future trilogy, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991 and didn’t go public with it until 1998. According to the actor’s website, he also created The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which has been going strong in the decades since. Sabatino praised Fox, stating, “He’s the guy, the lead, in terms of research and raising funds.”

The couple credit not living in Hollywood with one explanation for their marriage’s longevity, in an industry where married couples don’t stay together for very long. Chappell explained, “That might be one of the [better] things about not staying in Hollywood for too long.” She also added that they live in the Central Coast (which is in the center of California), happily noting that it’s beneficial for them. “We can see the ocean. It’s calm. It’s laid back. That’s kind of our vibe now,” she stated. (Find out about Chappell’s heartbreaking loss.)
