Enraged that Sarah was paralyzed because of a hit-and-run driver, Xander decided to punish Brady on Days of Our Lives. He wielded a bat, threatening his cousin, but thankfully, Fiona stopped him from making a horrible mistake. Eric Martsolf talked about what went into those scenes. And how he and Paul Telfer needed to be careful so no one got hurt.

An Intense Situation

Xander’s (Paul Telfer) mother, Fiona (Serena Scott Thomas), framed poor Brady (Eric Martsolf) for the accident that took Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) ability to walk. He used a bat meant for his daughter’s first birthday pinata and threatened Brady with it. This included swinging it around menacingly and smashing some set pieces. (Find out about Sarah’s attempt to use hypnosis to remember who actually hit her.)

Martsolf told Soap Opera Digest that his character didn’t plead for mercy or try to fight back, noting, “The fact that Brady just stood there and said, ‘Go ahead, do it’ — that’s intense.” And an intense scene it was indeed. He remarked that the prop department was unsure what furniture Telfer would smash in the Basic Black office, stating, “You could take out pretty much everything in there. So there was a lot of caution.”

The Bat Was Real

Martsolf remarked that with Telfer wielding the bat by swinging it around, they had to proceed cautiously so no one got hurt. He explained, “We take great care with those kind of dangerous situations, and there was no plastic bat either. It was the real thing.”  He felt Telfer could have demolished everything on the set.

Fortunately, it was only office furniture that got the brunt of Xander’s rage. After the scene was in the can, the two actors laughed about it despite the intensity of the situation. Even though things didn’t come to an actual melee, they had a choreographer who worked with them to ensure that no one was really hurt.
