John Black may have finally hit the jackpot with a father he can be proud of in Timothy, and actor Drake Hogestyn also has reason to be festive.
Happy Birthday, Drake Hogestyn
That’s because he was born on September 29, 1953, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, which means that this talented performer is turning 70 years old today! Hogestyn began his acting career after being one of 30 people chosen from a group of 75,000 by talent scouts for Columbia Pictures.
His first starring role was in the primetime musical series Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Despite being a remake of the highly popular Hollywood film of the same name, the new series garnered a low Nielsen rating and was canceled after its first season.
In 1986, Drake Hogestyn was cast on the NBC daily serial Days of our Lives. Originally a mysterious amnesiac whom a consortium of criminals nicknamed The Pawn, Hogestyn’s character was eventually revealed to be a plastic surgery-altered Roman Brady.
However, five years later, the character would actually prove to be living a lie when the REAL Roman Brady returned to town. Therefore, Hogestyn’s part was renamed John Black, and the circumstances surrounding his true identity became a major unsolved mystery for the decades.
Despite his character’s change, Hogestyn remained with DAYS until John Black was presumed dead in 2007. When the staged passing was outed, and John saved from his crazed abductors, Hogestyn returned to the series only to leave again one year later.
Luckily, Hogestyn was rehired in 2011 and has been with DAYS ever since. Outside of his daytime role, Hogestyn has also appeared in Otherworld, Beverly Hills Cowgirl Blues, and Criminal Minds.
