NBC held an executive session with Paul Telegdy, Chairman, NBC Entertainment this weekend in Pasadena, Calif. for the Television Critics Association. In addition to outlining the network’s plans for the future in terms of its primetime lineup, the exec also addressed the status of Days of our Lives.
Ken Corday, the executive producer, reportedly had told the cast last fall that the show had received a deal to be renewed from the network. Since then, there’s been no official word of a pickup.
Soap Hub was on the scene at the NBC press conference and asked Telegdy what the latest status was on the renewal.
“I really know that this is one of the answers I was going to prepare,” Telegdy said. “We’re in the middle of knowing very soon [about the official pickup]. Of course, Days of our Lives is going to carry on. We love it. Millions of Americans watch it every week. I know that there will be good news with the fans. We are, of course, carrying on with Days of our Lives.”
The NBC soap is executive produced by Ken Corday. Ron Carlivati serves as head writer. Greg Meng and Albert Alarr are co-executive producers. Currently, the show has embarked on a highly innovative “time jump” storyline in which the show has jumped one year into the future.
DOOL made its debut in 1965 and is one of the longest-running daytime soap operas in American history. It has outlasted other soaps to become a mainstay for many households. Needless to say, five decades of storylines have kept viewers locked in and wanting more.
From Stefano DiMera’s (Joseph Mascolo) evil schemes to Victor Kiriakis’s (John Aniston) one-liners to the epic love story of Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso), DAYS knows how to entertain and keep fans coming back for more. Sadly, times are shifting and daytime soap operas are shrinking.
It is one of only four remaining soap operas currently on the air. The other three daytime dramas include General Hospital (GH), The Young and the Restless(YR), and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB). DAYS airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for air times.
