If you thought that Days of our Lives lost its mind when it created a story in which Gabi could control how Julie’s pacemaker worked inside her body through an app on her phone, well think again — because like so much of Law & Order: SVU — this one was ripped from the headlines, according to head writer Ron Carlivati.

Days of our Lives Heart-Stopping Story

The prolific writer of the NBC soap revealed exactly what real-life reporting motivated his latest revenge-filled move for Gabi (Camila Banus) to engage in — and it’s pretty fascinating. On his official Twitter account, Carlivati mentioned it was ripped from a six-year-old CNN story about former Vice President Dick Cheney.

In the article, CNN revealed that they ordered the manufacturer of the vice president’s defibrillator to have its wi-fi mechanism disabled to prevent hacking. They feared a scenario in which a terrorist might send a signal to the device that would shock the vice president into cardiac arrest.

Real Life Inspires Reel Life
Carlivati then tweeted this information to his followers as proof that he wasn’t writing something far-fetched but rather something in existence for the past six years at least, along with the hashtag “#takethatskeptics” — but even more fun was the gif he used of Joan Collins as Alexis Carrington on Dynasty showing off a piece of paper that said, “I have the receipts.”

Game, Set, And Match

Granted there are plenty of things that happen in Salem that are a bit far-fetched, like Dr. Rolf’s (Will Utay) ability to bring people who were pronounced dead back to life, masks that seem to make someone with a totally different facial structure and body type look exactly alike, and various other things. But, this app that can control a heart attack is apparently not one of them. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
