Kristian Alfonso has left Days of our Lives again, and we have an unprecedented Soap Hub result: We got the exact same number of votes – 1265 – for yes, they should recast Hope, and no, they shouldn’t recast Hope. Here’s how the question played out in detail:
Days of our Lives Polling: More Hope
Half of the audience remembers that Alfonso herself was a recast. Before her, teenage Hope was played by an actress named Tammy Taylor, and before that by a child actress named Natasha Ryan. Fans fell in love with one Hope, and then another Hope, and then Alfonso. So it is possible.
Hope’s children, Shawn (Brandon Beemer) and Ciara (Victoria Konefal) have been recast more than once, and so has her granddaughter, Claire (Isabel Durant). Heck, Hope’s stepmother, Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) is a recast, and so was her late husband Bo (Peter Reckell/Robert Kelker-Kelley). In other words, no one is irreplaceable, the show must go on, and we need Hope in Salem! How else will we ever find the missing Ciara, otherwise?
Natasha Ryan was a child, and Tammy Taylor played the role for only around a year. Alfonso is the definitive Hope “Fancy Face” Williams Brady (all the other last names – and husbands – don’t count). As the failure after failure of multiple Jack recasts has proven, there’s nothing like the real thing, baby. Matthew Ashford is Jack, and Kristian Alfonso is Hope.
If she wants to take a break from the show, let her. Everybody deserves a break once in a while, and she’s left and come back before. So there’s no reason to lose Hope. In both meanings of the word. Let Hope take off on a hunt for her baby girl. And when she finds Ciara, let them both return. Ciara can be played by anyone. But only Alfonso is Hope. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC.
