Days of our Lives fans are getting an extra stocking stuffer in this year. The stand-alone movie Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas, featuring many of your favorite characters including Eileen Davidson’s Kristen DiMera, will stream on Peacock Premium (NBC’s pay streaming service) starting Thursday, December 16.
The story follows Will Horton (Chandler Massey) writing a screenplay to meet a holiday deadline. Will draws on many holiday movie tropes as he creates an original tale of his own. Viewers will see characters in familiar settings but many of them have a twist. For starters, John Black (Drake Hogestyn) is paired not with his beloved Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) but instead, he’s in a relationship with Kristen (Eileen Davidson)!
The actress tells Soap Hub that viewers will see Kristen in this film the way she’s always seen her. “She wants to be loved and does everything she can to obtain that love,” Davidson notes. “This movie shows her at her most vulnerable when even she feels that she doesn’t deserve to be loved.”
There are fun movie homages throughout Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas including nods to A Christmas Carol, Love, Actually, and It’s A Wonderful Life. “I love the fact that the concept of this movie pulls your favorite holiday tropes and makes them into a movie of its own,” Davidson says. “It’s about what happen if people had taken different roads in life and then, they pull it all together.”
Davidson applauds everyone at DAYS from the show’s crew to executive producer Ken Corday, co-executive producer Albert Alarr, and head writer Ron Carlivati for making this happen. “I’m really falling in love with the fact that Peacock is embracing this and that [DAYS] was able to facilitate this,” the actress says. “They’re pulling it off beautifully.”
Today, TV viewers have more choices than ever given all the streaming platforms out there and, thanks to Peacock and DAYS, the soap genre is not being left behind. Earlier this year, DAYS and Peacock teamed up to bring viewers Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem. “You either evolve or you die,” Davidson points out. “DAYS is embracing this and evolving. They’re smart.”
Whether you’re a regular viewer of DAYS or haven’t seen the show in a while, you’ll be able to jump right into Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas. Longtime fans will be reminded that Kristen has a heart. “That’s what they give a nod to — [Kristen] being into community service and charity work,” Eileen Davidson says. “[Laughs] Then, she went bad.”
