It has been a hard few years for Days of our Lives fans, suffering the losses of fan favorites like John Clarke (Mickey), Joe Mascolo (Stefano), and of course, Peggy McCay (Caroline). But it has been even harder on their co-stars. Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn recently spoke on the subject, and the two legends got emotional.

Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn Speak Out

Actors on soaps work long hours, during which they can develop a very close bond with each other over their many years together. Hogestyn has been on DAYS for 34 years while co-star Hall has been on and off the show over 43 years. In a video shared from the show’s official Twitter account, the two actors discuss some of their feelings about recently departed friends.

“We just lost John Clarke, Mickey,” shared Hogestyn. “But when you work with people, and you rely on people, and you love people and then you lose people…” It’s obvious that the loss is felt deeply by the actor.

They went on to discuss the loss of both Peggy McCay and Joe Mascolo, and it’s obvious that while they may have played enemies onscreen, Hogestyn especially deeply misses his former co-star, mentioning how much it means to him to still have the actor’s portrait up on set.

Remembering Joe Mascolo

“And Joe, Stefano, you know I loved that man. You know I loved working with him, like a big brother. You know, so those things that you carry with you,” he shared, before turning his attention to the portrait. “I walk up to him and he’s got his hand up like this,” he said, imitating the look of his resting his head on his fist.

“And I take my knuckle, and I just boom — I bump his picture and [say] “How you doing, man? I’ll see you soon,” shared Hogestyn, before getting overwhelmed by the memory.

Hall jumped in to add, “When Joe died and when Peggy died, Caroline and Stefano, we were all at the services and it was — I found it a little surreal to look out and know that, well, there’s John’s family and there’s Peggy’s family, and there’s all of our family, all of our cast members sitting together and just waving them off.”
