Life as Lani Price Grant knows it is about to change dramatically on Days of our Lives when she learns the mother and father she adores aren’t her real parents. Actress Sal Stowers weighs in on the pivotal week that totally upends her character’s life.

Sal Stowers Weighs In On Lani’s Crushing Week

It all goes down on Paulina Price (Jackée Harry) and Abe Carver’s (James Reynolds) wedding day when Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens) reveals the truth: Paulina is actually Lani’s birth mother.

What’s Lani’s reaction when she learns the truth – that Paulina is actually her mother?

Sal Stowers: Lani is absolutely crushed. Her whole life is turned upside down. Her whole life is basically a lie. So she’s not only crushed, but she’s f*#*ing pissed.

Were you excited to play those scenes?
Yes. The goal as an artist is to tell a story that inspires and touches the world. I definitely think that this family dynamic that I’m getting to tell and be a part of actually feels very real. A lot of times soap stories can feel so far-fetched, where it’s just ridiculous. But real stuff like this happens.

I know a situation that happened like this. People can find out that their parent is not their parent – 60 years later. This is a relevant story that has happened to people. I’m thankful to be telling it and excited to see how the fans react to it, because I do love it. It’s a special story for me and a special time in my career, too.

How is this news going to affect Lani?
Thankfully, Lani and Eli have a very strong marriage and very strong communication with each other. They’ll be able to work through it, but as far as who Lani is and what her background is… Nothing is real to her. Nothing makes sense. Her whole life from childhood to now has been a lie. The only thing that is real in her life is Eli and her babies.

Will we see a big blow-up in her relationship with Paulina on Days of our Lives?
Oh yes. She is not happy with Paulina. It is not going to be an easy ride for Paulina. She has broken all kinds of trust with Lani, and Lani is not having it. She doesn’t want to see her. She doesn’t want to talk to her. She completely just cuts her off.

What about Lani’s relationship with her beloved “father,” Abe?
We find out together… Lani’s sad for herself and Abe, because she knows that he means such a great deal to her and vice versa. Overall, [this news] is just a complete heartbreak for them both. It’s like, How do they move forward? Everything they thought they shared and had together is just kind of going down the drain.

Do they try to comfort each other through this?
Not at first. It takes a little bit of time. But they do try to comfort and be there for each other.

Will this revelation change Days of our Lives’ Lani at the core?
How couldn’t it? It would change anybody. You find out that your whole life [is a lie]. Yes, Lani and Abe’s [relationship] is newer, but since she found out he was her father they have created this amazing life with each other. She’s created this life with her brother [Theo] and a life in Salem.

Then there’s her childhood. Her mother, or the woman she thought was her mother, is not her mother. It’s a big betrayal from all the women who meant so much to her. They all lied to her. How can you not think about everything that has been told to you? What’s real and what’s not? That would affect anybody tremendously and the way they look at their entire family. Everybody was lying to Lani her whole life. That would rock anybody’s world.
