Their last trip to the altar was derailed by a gun-toting Jan Spears, but today, longtime Days of Our Lives supercouple Shawn and Belle are set to have a holiday wedding for real. Their portrayers, Brandon Beemer and Martha Madison, recently sat down with Soap Hub and a group of reporters to preview the big day.

A Days of Our Lives Conversation

While Belle wore white to her first wedding to Shawn, in keeping with the holidays, this time she’s decked out in red! “There really isn’t a ‘wedding dress,'” Madison shared. “She’s wearing a dress but it’s not white. It’s red. The wedding is much more about sentiment than attire.”

“It’s very spontaneous,” adds Beemer.

Jan (Heather Lindell) showing up to stop the nuptials last month began back when the Last Blast gang reunited for the DOOL App series Last Blast Reunion in 2019. “That was a teaser,” Beemer says, “and having Jan come back onto the main show was a real treat.”

“It was very full circle,” Madison adds. “I’m glad it continued onto the main show.”

Time will tell if Shawn ever forgets his new wedding anniversary, but Beemer certainly won’t. He says that today’s ceremony is also his real-life mom’s birthday! “I told her the wedding was on her birthday, and she said, ‘I’ll be watching!'” says the actor.

Madison says her dad watches her on DAYS, but shares that her 7-year-old daughter Charley is not a faithful devotee. “I had the show on the other day and [Charley] walked in and said, ‘Yeah, I’m going to watch something else,'” chuckles Madison. “I don’t take it personally!”

The newlyweds are headed for an off-screen honeymoon, but Beemer teases that upon their return to the story canvas in 2021 they’ll head into some immediate conflict. “Let them be happy for a bit, but there has to be something that stirs things up for them,” Beemer says. “I want to see them fight for each other.”

“It’s great to be the cop or the lawyer or doctor on the show because you have a story even if you’re supporting someone else’s story,” Madison muses. The Daytime Emmy nominee doesn’t know what’s coming next but she wouldn’t mind seeing the writers mine a significant (off-screen) event from Shelle’s life to act as current conflict.

“I wonder who that guy was that Belle had the affair with that got [Shawn and Belle’s] divorce going in the first place,” Madison says. “Maybe they could explore what happened there? You need a third party to make a marriage work on a soap opera!” Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on NBC. Check local listings for airtimes.
