It’s the end of an era for Will and Sonny. The next time the Salem supercouple pops up on Days of our Lives, a new actor will be playing Sonny. The soap has recast the role with Zach Tinker, last seen as Fenmore Baldwin on The Young and the Restless.
Days of our Lives Casting: Zach Tinker In, Freddie Smith Out
Tinker will make his debut on Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem, the upcoming limited series set to stream on NBC’s Peacock service, and he won’t be alone. Joining him will be Chandler Massey as Will and Greg Rikaart, who’s returning as the unscrupulous Leo Stark.
The Sonny recast news comes on the heels of Freddie Smith’s announcement that he wouldn’t be returning to Days of our Lives, when and if the soap decided to bring Sonny and Will back to the canvas. Smith, who now resides in Florida, revealed his decision on his YouTube series, The Freddie and Alyssa Show, which he co-hosts with his wife, Alyssa Tabit.
DOOL: A Gem of a Mystery
Tinker, Rikaart, and Massey will all be featured in a hunt for stolen gems storyline that takes their characters across the globe. They’ll be joined by an array of other Days of our Lives stars, past and present, participating in the streaming spinoff.

Days of our Lives: Kicking Off the Action
The adventure kicks off over a long weekend, when John and Marlena travel to Zurich, Ben and Ciara embark on a romantic getaway in New Orleans, Chad visits some old friends in Phoenix, and Abe, Paulina, Lani, and Eli vacation in Miami. They all find themselves embroiled in a mystery involving stolen jewels, which, in the wrong hands, could cause dire consequences for Salem. It’s a race against time for ISA agent Billie Reed as she crosses the globe in search of this missing treasure.
Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem promises to be packed with all of the romance, drama, and surprises synonymous with Days of our Lives. The action-packed spinoff will give fans the chance to spend an exciting week with their favorite Salem supercouples and to reconnect with many familiar faces along the way.
