We’ve all heard the news by now: Days of our Lives is headed where no soap has ever headed before… a time-jump, ala some of the cooler nighttime soaps. (Though, to be fair, Guiding Light did jump a year ahead in their final episode. But it was, you know, the final episode.)
Are fans looking forward to skipping all the boring stuff so they can get to the good stuff quicker? What over 4000 of you had to say about this brave new world:
A majority 60% of the audience thinks it sounds absolutely ridiculous. Sure, you could put up with a Phoenix who keeps rising from the dead. And half a town being brutally murdered in front of you… only to learn they’re alive on a secret, backward island.
You accepted the Salem Strangler and the Salem Slasher and a micro-chip in Princess Gina’s brain and Carly being buried alive and a memory serum, but skipping a year ahead in time? That, THAT’s ridiculous!
Soap fans have lost a lot over the past 20 years — including a half-dozen beloved shows. And you refuse to lose one more thing that makes daytime drama special; being able to watch your favorites day by day by day by day.
If skipping a year means not having to watch Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) agonize over her pregnancy, and Gabi (Camila Banus) whining about Stefan (Brandon Barash), and Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) recovery, and Rafe (Galen Gering) changing diapers… then 40% of Days of our Lives fans say bring on the time jump!
Maybe when we come back to the future, everyone’s story will have moved ahead. Gina (Kristian Afonso) will be running Salem — while Ciara (Victoria Konefal) and Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) try to figure out what’s wrong with her mom. Plus, maybe Steve (Stephen Nichols) will finally come home! Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
