Days of our Lives Performer of the Week: Robert Scott Wilson

It’s not every actor who can imbue a former serial killer with the requisite amount of heart and soul needed to convince a majority of the viewing public to throw their support behind him, but Robert Scott Wilson is a special kind of performer.

And in light of his masterful handling of a quartet of episodes featuring Ben facing his greatest fear – a life without his beloved wife – Soap Hub is bestowing upon Wilson some much-deserved kudos in the form of our Performer of the Week Award.

While Ciara (Victoria Konefal) underwent emergency surgery, Ben took to the hospital chapel and prayed for a miracle. When Marlena (Deidre Hall) joined him, Ben reflected on his rescue of Ciara and on their love story, and on the ironic parallels of the experiences had by Ciara and Alice in Wonderland.

The duo’s conversation was eventually interrupted by a news bearing Claire (Isabel Durant) – Ciara was in a recovery room! A jubilant Ben took his leave, but the couple’s reunion was momentarily delayed by a medical malady all Ben’s own.

When he eventually made it to Ciara’s bedside, Ben cautiously took her hand and assured her of his presence. But when Ciara opened her eyes and got a good look at her visitor, obvious panic set in. Why was the Necktie Killer anywhere near her, and why was he professing his love to her? Is he here to claim her as his latest victim?!

Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) rushed into the room, ushered Ben out, and began working on getting her patient calmed and collected. Meanwhile, Ben returned to the hospital’s waiting area and wondered how in the world Ciara could think he’d possibly hurt her.

Ben held out hope that Claire’s visit with Ciara might jump-start Ciara’s memory, but their exchange didn’t go any smoother. Ben resolved himself to be there for his injured love, no matter how long her recovery took – but when Kayla came and doled out her diagnosis, which amounted to selective amnesia, that resolve crumbled.

With just a few rapidly fired-off questions – “You’re trying to tell me right now that she doesn’t remember that we’re together? Or that we’re married? Or what made us fall in love? She doesn’t remember anything at all?” – Wilson made it painfully clear that Ben is now a broken man – and only time can tell whether the inflicted damage is irreparable or otherwise.
