Anchor Melvin Robert of Spectrum News 1 welcomed Days of our Lives actors Lamon Archey and Sal Stowers to discuss the huge milestone wedding of Eli Grant and Lani Price… and how they made history.

Lamon Archey and Sal Stowers Discuss Historic Wedding

When the fan-favorite couple got married recently — with Deidre Hall’s Marlena officiating — it marked the first time in the 54-year-history of DAYS that an African-American couple was married onscreen.

“It means so much and what a time for it to actually take place, for everyone to watch,” Archey said. “To not only be a part of Days of our Lives history but to be a part of black history. It’s something we all as African Americans would love to be a part of… black history. For Sal and I, to be able to do that, it means so much.”

The couple, known to fans as “Elani,” had to go through the usual soap opera drama before getting to the “I Do’s,” including Vivian Alamain threatening to shoot Lani and also Gabi being Gabi, but the joyous occasion finally happened to the delight of all.

“It’s honestly been really wonderful having so much love from the fans. It’s really important that you showcase all love stories no matter what race you are,” Stowers said. “With soaps being on the air, so many people connect to them and relate to them. It’s an escape from your reality. Even in these given times, we are in right now, to turn on the TV and watch a soap and get lost in the drama and the love stories, it’s kind of what we all need right now.”

Robert talked about the strong legacy of soaps and some of the big stars that came out of daytime, and asked Archey how he deals with the workload and the grind of memorizing so many lines each week.

“It’s one of those things where you just kind of do it,” the actor said. “Repetition and learning your lines -— it’s muscle memory. The more you do, you’re strengthening the brain and the lines come to you quicker.”
