If you thought Craig Wesley coming out of the closet and professing his love to Leo Stark was a shocker, Days of our Lives has another surprise story twist coming. The soap’s gearing up for a new romance for Craig’s jilted ex — launching new couple Nancy Wesley and Clyde Weston.
Days of our Lives: Two of a Kind?
Who saw that one coming? Most likely no one. However, if the stars – namely, actors Patrika Darbo (Nancy) and James Read (Clyde) – and storyline align correctly, it really could work.
Clyde’s a scoundrel with a checkered past, who’s been in and out of prison. Nancy, for her part, is no saint. During her initial run in Salem she was a master conniver. Remember how she manipulated to oust Mike Horton as Salem University Hospital’s chief-of-staff, so her Craig (Kevin Spirtas) could assume the position? The two characters both have a penchant for pushing boundaries and bending the rules to get what they want.
Starting Over
Meanwhile, they’re coming together at an absolutely perfect time. They’re both in the same position of starting over. Clyde’s determined to become a better man now that he’s out of the slammer and expecting a grandchild. Embarking on a new relationship seems like a natural first step.
After decades as a happily married woman, Nancy finds herself suddenly single. It’s a position she’s not used to or comfortable with. So having her move on quickly by jumping in to the dating pool makes perfect sense.
Days of our Lives: Veteran Virtuosity
Still, it’s a complex and dubious pairing. However, in the hands of two pros like Patrika Darbo and James Read, it absolutely has to be destined for success. They’ll be able to take what’s written on the page and elevate it to new levels… find ways to connect and explore. And, above all, make this seemingly odd coupling work.
