Days of our Lives Ben and Ciara Reunion: What Went Right – and Wrong

Ciara Brady finally getting her full memory back and remembering her love for Ben Weston was pure bliss for “Cin” fans. There were a lot of things about the couple’s reconnection that couldn’t have played out better or more romantically. Yet, there were a few twists that were a tad questionable. Here’s an analysis of the Days of our Lives Ben and Ciara reunion: what went right and wrong.

Days of our Lives Homage to Bo Brady and Hope Williams

For longtime DAYS fans, paying homage to Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) kidnapping Hope Williams (Kristian Alfonso) before she could marry Larry Welch (Andrew Masset), by having Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) abduct Ciara (Victoria Konefal) en route to her wedding to Theo Carver (Cameron Johnson), was a nostalgic touch. It evoked sweet memories of Ciara’s parents’ epic love story and that unforgettable day from their past.

Only Ben used a limousine instead of a motorcycle. And his partners in crime were Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) and Claire Brady (Isabel Durant), instead of Alice Horton (Frances Reid) and Howie Hofstetter (Stanley Brock). Having Claire don a wedding dress and sub for the bride, just as Howie had done with Hope, was the perfect last step.

DOOL: Past Perfect

The writers’ decision to have Ben recreate his and Ciara’s relationship, straight from the get-go, was smart and engaging. The minute the pair stepped foot into the cabin where Ben had brought Ciara after her motorcycle accident, viewers were transported back to the past. As Ben relayed every moment of his and Ciara’s special first days together, flashbacks were interspersed with present scenes. In the process, the audience was wooed along with Ciara.

Ben’s ankle injury was a perfect twist and a play on Ciara’s former injury, only this time she was nursing him. A vulnerable Ben quickly evoked a softer side of Ciara. Everything down to the pair enjoying Chinese takeout, their longtime favorite, played beautifully, ending with a simple “yes” message in Ciara’s fortune cookie. It all resonated with fans and, finally, Ciara, as her memories came flooding back to her. After announcing, “I remember,” she pulled Ben into a kiss and all was romantically right again.

Days of our Lives: Cabin Call

As great as the cabin reunion was, there are significant holes in the story. It’s impossible to believe that no one suspected Ben had taken Ciara there or to someplace in its vicinity? Wouldn’t that have been the first place Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) would have searched for his missing sister? And, speaking of the formerly charred cabin, Ben said he’d had it refurbished. Where did he get the money for the job, considering he hasn’t worked in months? And who actually owns the place?

DAYS: Fast and Furious

“Cin” fans likely don’t care about any of the above. They’re just happy their favorite twosome is back together. However, didn’t it all play out with warp speed? After a year of keeping Ben and Ciara apart through great storytelling, the payoff happened much too quickly. It all wrapped up in less than a two-week span.

It would have been more dramatic to have Ben work harder to reconnect with Ciara…to have him spend weeks wooing her. Along the way, Ciara could have found herself slowly falling for him all over again, no matter how hard she tried to resist. She could have questioned and fought her “new” attraction to Ben while wondering if it was connected to their past. Then, just as she was about to give in to a kiss, her memories could have come flooding back to her. It’s all a moot point now and ended romantically, as Ciara and Ben are finally back together where they belong.
