For all soaps still airing on the major networks, holidays tend to be a time for pre-emptions (fa la la la la la, la la la la), whether it’s a parade or a Bowl Game or just the assumption that no one will watch, so the ratings will drop, and nobody wants that. So forget about General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless most years on Christmas (this year, it falls on a Sunday, so it wouldn’t anyway). But Days of our Lives will still be there.
Because streaming doesn’t pre-empt, DAYS fans can look forward to spending the day in Salem, just like every other day. And that’s a blessing for a wide variety of fans.
There are those who don’t celebrate Christmas. Just because soaps don’t seem to be aware of it, they do exist in America…and they number in the millions. Those people are looking for something to do…while enjoying their day off (thanks, Christians!).
But what about those who do celebrate Christmas…but have no one to celebrate it with? Whether it’s because they’ve lost their family, because they don’t get along with their family, because they can’t afford to travel to their family, or because of health concerns, these folks still deserve to enjoy the day.
And if the family they choose to enjoy it with is their soap family, like, say, the Hortons, Bradys, DiMeras, and Johnsons, then they’re in luck! DAYS will be on just like always, even on Monday, December 26.
So while Peacock talks about the benefits of streaming DAYS — longer episodes, hotter scenes, no breaking news — we’d like to focus on the consistency that only watching soaps, day after day, week after week, year after year brings. Especially on the holidays.
Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on Peacock+ in the U.S. and The W Network or Global TV App in Canada. For more about what’s coming up in Salem, check out all the latest that’s been posted on DAYS spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
