On Days of our Lives, after Sarah Horton was kidnapped, drugged, and terrorized, she came to the conclusion that she was actually Renée DuMonde DiMera…after reading about her life in Renée’s journal.
Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) encouraged Sarah’s delusions since that made her easier to control. But for those of us who watched the original story play out back in the early 1980s, we’ve got some questions:
Did Renée date her journal entries? If so, does SaRenée think it’s 1982? In that case, how does Sarah, who was born around the same time, have any idea about what “should” be going on in the world? Does she think the USSR is still a thing? Members Only jackets? Madonna? (Well, the latter is eternal.)
And if that’s the case, does SaRenée never turn on the TV, listen to the radio? Is she surprised? Is she confused? Does she know what the Internet is? Does she ask to read Life Magazine? To watch Dallas? (Does she know who shot JR?)
Sarah recognized Kayla Brady Johnson (Mary Beth Evans)…but she didn’t notice she’d aged 30 years? And why does SaRenée trust her sister, Kristen, if, in 1982, Renée didn’t know anything about the orphans her father adopted while presumed dead? It wouldn’t have been in the journal.
Most importantly, once SaRenée returns to Salem, won’t she notice that her great love, Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) is not quite the dashing young man he used to be? And how is she going to process that the husband Renée denigrates in her journal, David Banning, is not only dead but the father of an adult son like Eli Grant (Lamon Archey)…who has toddlers of his own?! We want answers even more than poor, confused SaRenée does!
