For months, DAYS’ Billy Flynn has been playing Chad DiMera as a man on the verge, and with recent events conspiring to finally tip him over the edge, kudos are due him in for the form of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week award.
Flynn first went toe-to-toe — or more accurately, face-to-face — with co-star Emily O’Brien whose Gwen Rizczech was desperate to convince someone, anyone, but most importantly Chad DiMera that she didn’t kill Abigail Deveraux DiMera (Marci Miller).
At first, Flynn was cool, though hardly calm and collected. His Chad paced the length of Gwen’s cage, hands gesticulating ever so animatedly, but his voice steady and low pitched.
He granted Gwen that he underestimated her. How was he to know that she’d been able to give the guards at Statesville the slip, make her way to the DiMera manse, plunge a knife into her little sister, and then slink back into her cell?
When Gwen loudly protested her innocence, Flynn finally unleashed the beast within Chad via his almost guttural, “THEN WHY DID YOU ADMIT IT TO LEO?!”
She didn’t, Gwen swore; it was all a lie. “WHY?” demanded Chad. So that Leo could cut a deal for himself, reasoned Gwen. Then came Gwen’s supposed reason for confronting and threatening Abigail: she wanted the pleasure of putting her tormentor through a good scare and she wanted to do so under the guise of Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) so that Sarah would be sectioned.
“Do you think that that puts you in a better light?” Flynn demanded — a question and an accusation all rolled into one.
Gwen continued to deny, deny, deny, and blameshifting. It was Leo who did the murder, she insisted. All the while Billy Flynn stood by vacillating between righteous fury, indignation, and out-and-out disbelief earning him this week’s Performer of the Week nod.
