A Critic’s Review Of Days of our Lives: Been There, Done That

The author’s opinions on Days of our Lives are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Personal Highlight

Not only was I right not to spent myself emotionally for the deaths that won’t stick, but apparently most of the characters on Days of our Lives decided to not to bother either.

Sure, John (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena Evans Black (Deidre Hall) were suitably upset. Ditto Rex Brady (Kyle Lowder) and Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo). And Stephen Nichols and Abigail Klein put in some boffo work as Steve and Stephanie Johnson respectively, but as for everybody else…yeah, I wasn’t feeling it.

Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) almost lost his *ahem* manhood over his dalliance with Kate Roberts Brady (Lauren Koslow), and I’m not even sure he paused to give the woman a passing thought. Kate was Gabi Hernandez Shin-For-The-Short-Term’s (Camila Banus) best frenemy — sorry Abby! — and yet I think we only heard someone say that Gabi had been sad to hear about her passing. REALLY?

And what about Kate’s grandkids? Will didn’t seem to care that she was dead in the slightest, and I only have Allie Horton’s (Lindsay Arnold) word for it that she’s sad. Sure didn’t look too distraught.

Even Chad DiMera, who thought of Kate as his surrogate mother, hasn’t been shown mourning her. He’s far too busy getting all up in Stephanie and Alex’s (Robert Scott Wilson) business.

And did I actually hear Sonny Kiriakis (Zach Tinker) say that he has no idea what his Uncle Steve is going through? Like he didn’t think his husband was dead for years. Apparently, the writing team at Days of our Lives forgot that. Then again, they forgot the time jump, so why am I surprised?

Further DAYS Musings

* Best Days of our Lives Dialogue

Rafe: Since you’re being so cooperative, I’m sure you won’t mind if I have a forensics team come search the, uh, secret room and the tunnels for leads?
Kristen: Why do we still call it a secret room when everyone knows about it?

* I know it, you know it, Stephanie, and the man himself knows it — Alex is a bad guy. But did we really need parallel scenes of Steph reading him for filth and Chad doing much the same? Also, why is Sonny always so quick to throw his brother under the bus? I mean, he didn’t have to rat Alex out to Chad. I honestly think he enjoyed doing it on some level.

* Where did Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) get that gun he drew on Kristen? Was that a recent purchase? Did he get it from John’s stash? It would be pretty poetic if it was one of Kristen’s.
