Longtime “Days of Our Lives” icon Deidre Hall offered some tantalizing talk recently as she looked back on her long career as Dr. Marlena Evans.
What better time to reflect than when you become one of Tinsel Town’s greats by getting your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Hall did just that recently with Glamour Magazine.
We’ve always wanted to know what it was like behind the scenes with the Marlena possession storyline, and now we know!
“I’d played Marlena for so many years as this sweet, understanding, compassionate woman, and then to start killing people was so much fun!”
Who ever thought we’d hear Marlena say that? Also, to make those disturbing devil eyes easier to see through, the crew had to prick tiny holes in them!
As for the Marlena storylines that offered Hall the most fun? According to the actress, just choose any with Wayne Northrop, who originated the role of Roman Brady.
“He just made every scene so fun and irreverent,” she told Glamour.
Life on the DAYS set has also had some unexpected moments. A producer once told Hall not to laugh on camera. Her indelicate laugh clashed with this producer’s vision of Marlena as a reserved woman with decorum.
Even after all these years, Hall is still wildly popular with fans, as she does know them well.
“So many times, as actors in soaps, we know how long an audience member has been waiting for a moment. So when we play it, they sit beside us.”
Marlena and Hall share many qualities, the actress told Glamour. This includes “a deep and abiding love of friends and family.”
Hall originated the role of Marlena Evans in 1976, forming several supercouples, including pairings with Roman Brady and with John Black (Drake Hogestyn). Marlena is also mother to one of soaps’ most popular characters, Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney). How’s that for a daytime pedigree?
