A Critic’s Review of Days of our Lives: Love Conquers Evil in Salem

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Week In Review

Supercouples are Days of our Lives’ bread and butter. It’s a fact that head writer Ron Carlivati knows more than most – and the man loves love. That’s why romantic pairings like Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) and Julie Olsen Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes), Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla Brady Johnson (Mary Beth Evans), and Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) and Ciara Brady Weston (Victoria Konefal) have been front and center during his tenure.

When Abigail Deveraux DiMera (Marci Miller) went searching for the proof to blow her devious half-sister out of the water, she did so with hubby Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) by her side. Gabi Hernandez DiMera (Camila Banus) and Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash) have taken on the likes of Mafiosa Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) and Zombie Nick Fallon (Blake Berris) and lived to tell the tales.

And of course, it’s the love emanating between John Black (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena Evans Black (Deidre Hall) that’s stymieing that pesky Devil. Say what you will about the hokeyness of it all, at the end of the day, this isn’t a horror story or a pro-evil story, this is a LOVE story. It conquers all, Satan included.

Further DAYS Musings

* All Talk, No Follow Through: Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson)

* Did we miss something, or did Days of our Lives writers really drop the Weston baby bomb on Theo Carver (Cameron Johnson) then drop the ball by not showing his reaction/him processing the news?

* Exchange of the Week:

Xander: Look, I don’t care if the D.A. does keep that money.
Gwen: Xander, you look me in the eye and you tell me that.
Xander: All right, I do care. But I’m not walking out on you, Gwen.
Gwen: Well, that’s sweet.
Xander: Why would I? This is my room. And also, you are the best thing that’s happened to me since…well, in a long time.
Gwen: I’m the best thing that’s happened to you? Well, that’s just bloody sad.

* Let’s workshop some nicknames for possessed Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk): Satan Susan, SueDevil, Suetan …

* Prop Most In Need of Retirement: Conference Table

* Xander (Paul Telfer) most definitely has a point – Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) isn’t one to pass judgment on anybody.
