James Hooton is a British actor who is best known for starring as Sam Dingle on Emmerdale for close to a quarter of a century.
Along with his work on the British soap, Hooton has also appeared in shows such as The Bill, Peak Practice, and Touching Evil. From where he was born and raised to his impressive body transformation, here are five fast facts about the actor.
Hooten was born on July 13 in Carlton, Nottinghamshire, England. He became interested in acting at a young age and got involved with the Carlton Junior Television Workshop, which helps young people work on their craft. He made his television debut at the age of 12 in the TV show Your Mother Wouldn’t Like It.
Soap Career, Soap Life
Hooton was cast as Sam Dingle on Emmerdale back in the mid ‘90s and has been a part of the series ever since. His life seemed ripped out of a soap plot when his Mercedes was stolen while he watched his daughter’s Christmas carol concert.
Body Transformation
The actor shocked fans a little over a year ago when he revealed his total body transformation on social media. He posted a picture flexing his muscles and has been open about his dedication to getting fit and staying healthy.
Along with being a television actor, Hooton has also worked in theater. After about 15 years away from the stage, Hooton returned to the theater in the show Our Style is Legendary in 2011.

Hooton has been in a relationship with dance company owner Nancy Lucas for well over a decade. The couple got engaged in 2010, but have yet to marry. They also have two daughters, Lily and Ava.
