Danny Dyer is a British actor who has appeared over the years on shows like EastEnders, Human Traffic, Mean Machine, The Football Factory, and The Real Football Factories International.
Along with his work on television, Dyer is also a theater actor and has done voice work. From where he was born and raised to his friendship with a Nobel Prize winner, here are five fast facts about the actor.
Dyer was born on July 24 in Custom House, East London to parents Antony and Christine. He grew up with his younger brother, Tony, and his younger sister, Kayleigh. Their parents split when he was 9 years old, so he was raised by his mother. He also started taking acting classes when he was just a teenager.
First Job — With An Oscar-Winner
Dyer was discovered by an agent at a local school, who encouraged him to audition for the part of Martin Fletcher in the TV series Prime Suspect 3, which starred eventual Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren. Dyer got the part at just 16 years old.
Soap Career
He was initially offered a part in EastEnders back in 2009, but he turned it down. He was then cast as Mick Carter on the show in 2013 and has been a part of the series ever since.
The actor was close friends with accomplished playwright Harold Pinter, who won a Nobel Prize in Literature and is one of the most influential British playwrights of all time. He was able to appear in two productions based on Pinter’s work — Celebration and The Homecoming — and the pair were very friendly until Pinter’s death in 2008.
Getting Personal With Danny Dyer
Dyer has been with his wife Joanne Mas since they were teens. They welcomed their daughter Dani when he was just 18. She is now an actress herself and even appeared on a recent season of the hit UK reality show, Love Island. The couple has two other children — daughter Sunnie and son Artie. After being together for over 20 years, Dyer and Mas tied the knot on September 3, 2016.
