Soap hopper Sean Kanan is now “hopping” into the digital series world. The veteran of The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless, has created a new web series titled Studio City that can be seen on Amazon Prime Video.

In addition to Kanan (ex-Deacon, BB), the cast features Emmy-winner Carolyn Hennesy (Diane, GH), Emmy-winner Sarah Joy Brown (ex-Carly, GH), Tristan Rogers (Scorpio, GH), Primetime Emmy-winner Patrika Darbo (Nancy, Days of our Lives), and Scott Turner Schofield (ex-Nick, BB). The series is helmed by veteran producer/director Timothy Woodward, Jr. (7 Faces of Jack the Ripper).
“This is a project I’ve been working on for the better part of 15 years in different incarnations,” Kanan tells Soap Hub. “I’m really fortunate that I’ve been partnered with Timothy, who I think is an extraordinary talent.”
Kanan and Woodward’s collaborating on Studio City came about after the two had a discussion about other projects during which Woodward said he wanted to produce content that’d be eligible for the Daytime Emmy Award for the Outstanding Digital Daytime Drama Series category.
How It Came To Be
“We took a 30-minute dramedy and made it into six 10-minute episodes,” says Kanan, who’s thrilled with the show’s cast. “This reunites me with Patrika. I can’t count how many times we’ve worked together. I’m working with Tristan after all these years and Sarah Brown again. We have other terrific actors in the show. The story’s about an aging soap star who’s been on his show — Hearts Afire — forever. He’s enjoyed the benefits of having a B-minus level of fame. Now, he wants to do something [else] in life.”
Kanan’s character, Sam Stevens (AKA Dr. Pierce Hartley on Hearts Afire), finds his life becoming complicated after a 16-year-old daughter he never knew he had enters his life.
“Sam’s got a lot of issues,” Kanan says. “There’s a traumatic story about how he came into the world. This series is a drama, but there’s a lot of humor in it.” Studio City drops on Amazon Prime Video tomorrow Friday, December 20.
