The Bold and the Beautiful has been telling two powerful social issue storylines this fall — opioid addiction and mental illness — but the show is also keeping romance front and center as evidenced by Carter’s heartfelt proposal to Zoe. Therefore, Soap Hub is bestowing Performer of the Week honors on Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter) for reminding soap fans that the genre will always be focused on romance.

By Carter’s own admission, his relationship with Zoe (Kiara Barnes) is moving rather quickly. After a game of (what appeared to be) something like Taboo, Carter suggested that Zende (Delon de Metz) and Paris (Diamond White) check out the rooftop view from his loft, leaving him and Zoe alone in the living room.

This may not have been the most ideal setting for a marriage proposal but the handsome attorney proved that popping the question doesn’t have to take place in front of the Eiffel Tower or on top of the Empire State Building to be romantic.

It’s the words that count. And Carter’s to Zoe came from the heart. “I want all of this to be yours, ours… together,” Carter said. “I want you to be here all the time… Zoe, I’ve been alone for a long time. I know what it’s like to have my heart broken.”

While Carter and Zoe’s official courtship has been relatively brief, he has known her for some time. Carter knows that Zoe’s heart, too, has been broken as he officiated her wedding to Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), which ended in heartbreak after Zoe realized she was being used so that Thomas could try to win back Hope (Annika Noelle).

Carter told Zoe he wanted a life with her, to have children with her, and to bring her coffee, and to hold her. Lawrence Saint-Victor played each beat of the speeches written for Carter, letting the words and the emotions behind them tell the love story. This was Zoe’s cue to see skyrockets and hear bells, but instead, she heard… a beeping smoke detector! A neighbor had stepped away from his stove, setting off the alarm.

When Carter went to investigate with Paris, Zende spied the ring and asked Zoe if Carter had proposed. She let him know that he had. Zoe let Zende know if he had anything to say that now was the time to speak. Zende pushed her into the direction of saying yes to Carter, despite the chemistry between them.

When Carter returned (and Zende and Paris left), he gave Zoe additional heartfelt reasons why he wants a life with her. He said he could face any alarm, any heartache as long as she was by his side.

Zoe joyfully accepted Carter’s proposal. Saint-Victor hasn’t played Carter sensing he has a true rival in Zende for his now-fiancée. It remains to be seen if Carter and Zoe get married or not. However, after seeing Carter’s romantic proposal to Zoe, it’s clear that he needs to be attending weddings as a groom — not as an officiator. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS.
