Deacon Sharpe’s past with Nikki Newman on The Young and the Restless is coming back to haunt him on The Bold and the Beautiful. While Deacon has gotten his life back on track (mostly) in Los Angeles, he had his share of scandals while living in Genoa City.
Bold and the Beautiful: Deacon’s Genoa City Days
Just what kind of antics did Deacon (Sean Kanan) get up to while he was living in the Midwest about a decade ago? Soap Hub’s got the history on Deacon’s wild days when he was rubbing elbows with the Newmans and other folks on B&B’s sister soap.
Deacon and Amber Moore
B&B character Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz), who shares a past with Deacon, had moved to Genoa City to start a new life. She was dating Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), and that’s when Deacon popped up on the scene. He wanted the young man out of the way so he could have Amber all for himself! Deacon set aspiring artist Daniel up after passing himself off as an art dealer.
Next, he blackmailed Amber into having sex with him; in exchange for a romp, he’d make sure Daniel didn’t go to jail on a trumped-up charge. Deacon later told Amber that he’d been coerced by Sarah Smythe, who was, allegedly and ironically, the sister of Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown), Deacon’s current roommate. Sarah threatened Little D (Field Cate), Deacon’s son, if he didn’t do her bidding.
Bold and the Beautiful: Tangled Webs
Deacon went to jail for his shenanigans, but his plan to return to California after he was released got derailed upon meeting Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford). The red-haired dynamo kissed Deacon to make her on-again/off-again squeeze Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) jealous. Deacon, who worked at Gloworm as a bartender, added to his dance card even further by befriending Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott). The two met at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, and, at first, he genuinely wanted her to stay on the wagon.
Less supportive of Nikki was her nemesis Meggie McClain (Sean Young), who wanted Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), Nikki’s love, for herself! Malicious Meggie spiked Nikki’s drink. Deacon accepted a huge bundle of cash to help Meggie move her scheme along. Deacon and Nikki ended up in rehab together, where he developed genuine feelings for the blonde beauty. But, ultimately, Deacon would put himself first when push came to shove.
At one point, Deacon told Meggie he was through being her patsy. Meggie made inroads with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), but he later exposed her as a fraud and turned her over to the police. An incarcerated Meggie told Nikki that Deacon had been her co-conspirator; Deacon was unable to convince Nikki that he genuinely cared for her.
Diane’s Dead — Wait, No, She’s Not
Next, Deacon became involved in a very complicated coverup related to Diane Jenkins (then, Maura West; now, Susan Walters). At first, everyone believed that Diane had been murdered. The list of suspects reads like a Who’s Who of Genoa City as she was at odds with many key players on the canvas. Deacon lied (it turned out) that he witnessed Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) kill Diane. He blackmailed Nikki into marrying him to keep quiet.
Deacon brought a drunk Nikki to Las Vegas, where they tied the knot. Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) offered Deacon a truckload of cash to annul the union, but that didn’t work. Nick, Nikki’s son, took a different approach — he physically attacked his new stepdad. Deacon went back and forth between spending Nikki’s money and genuinely caring for her. Nikki attempted to stop Victor from taking the fall for killing Diane to no avail. Later, Deacon kidnapped Nikki, and he showed her a video of her killing Diane while Nikki was drunk, but it was in self-defense.
Deacon went to jail for kidnapping Nikki and obstruction of justice. In a shocking twist, Y&R viewers learned earlier this year that Diane wasn’t dead after all! She and Deacon faked her death after Deacon got ahold of a corpse that looked conveniently like General Hospital’s Ava Jerome Diane. Nikki hasn’t seen Deacon since she learned about his role in helping Diane pull a fast one. But that’s changing.
Despite Deacon sometimes genuinely having feelings for Nikki, he was not good for her. You can bet there will be no love lost between the two once they reconnect on both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful!
