Stitch may be the surgeon on The Young and the Restless but it was his ex-wife Abby Newman-Abbott Chancellor, played by Melissa Ordway, who was cutting open a vein. Abby made a passionate plea to her ex to tell her where the location of the missing and very pregnant Mariah was.
Suspicion had fallen on lots of characters including Tricia Cast’s Nina Webster when it came to who abducted Mariah. Since the surrogate’s cellphone was found in Stitch’s hotel room, he’s become the prime suspect. Abby, played by Melissa Ordway, desperately, passionately, and emotionally poured out her heart to her ex, hoping to reach the good man she believes him to be.
Soap Hub chatted with Melissa Ordway about the powerful scenes. Read on to get the actress’s thoughts on Abby’s heartfelt plea to Stitch and what might happen next as she and Mariah’s other loved ones try to locate her!
Before we get into those amazing scenes today, let’s back up a bit. In hindsight, it made sense that Mariah just wanted to get away for a bit.
Melissa Ordway: Yes. Abby’s in such an interesting position. She was afraid of not wanting to offend Mariah or hurt her feelings. She wanted Mariah to know she was on her side and was appreciative that she was acting as the surrogate mother. Eventually, it started to become clear that something was very wrong!
In fairness, texting has become the standard form of communication.
Melissa Ordway: It’s kind of weird, I’ve found, when someone actually calls me on the phone! Abby was playing it safe and she truly believed those initial texts were from Mariah.
Clearly, suspicion has now fallen on Stitch. Abby passionately tried to reach him.
Melissa Ordway: First, I have to say I was so excited when I found out Sean Carrigan was coming back to the show. He’s one of my favorite people and he’s such a giving actor. We talk about our scenes and practice them just the right amount, I feel. I think because we’re such good friends in real life, we’re able to be vulnerable with each other. He’s such a great guy and a great actor. I was glad to be able to do these scenes. Abby actually does love and care about him. They have such history and so many layers. It was fun to play all that.
Fans are speculating online that Stitch is feeling the loss of his unborn child with Abby, which contributed to their split.
I think it wasn’t just one thing that happened. There was no cheating. Their marriage ended because they weren’t communicating. They couldn’t get through the loss of their unborn child. How do you even deal with that? The hope was that it could have brought them closer but that didn’t happen.
Stitch has been watching Abby prepare to have a baby with Chance while living with the fact that their baby died.
The fact that Abby’s having a baby with someone else must be bringing up a lot for Stitch. She doesn’t want to hurt him. She doesn’t want to believe he could be behind [Mariah’s disappearance]. As much as Abby does not want to believe this, she always wants to find her baby and…she may take matters into her own hands to find out what’s happened to Mariah and her baby.
