While fans barely realize that Melissa Claire Egan has been on maternity leave, thanks to some clever video calls that Chelsea Lawson has been placing to those important to her in Genoa City, the actress has now revealed that she has given birth to a healthy baby boy.
PEOPLE was the first to break the news that Egan and husband Matt Katrosar welcomed son Caden Robert Katrosar on Saturday. The little bundle of blue arrived weighing 7 lbs. and 7 oz. and 20 inches long.
“Everyone is healthy and doing well,” said the couple in a statement to PEOPLE adding, “we’re so grateful for all the love and well wishes along our journey to get here. We’re awestruck by this little man and can’t believe he’s ours.”
It was quite a journey for the couple indeed. It was back in early April that the actress announced she was pregnant in a post on Instagram.
“As happy as we are, the journey to get here has been filled with lots of tears, stress, sadness, helplessness, hopelessness, and 2 miscarriages,” the actress said at the time. “To anyone going through this process or any kind of fertility issues, I feel you, I see you, you’re not alone. I wish I could jump through this phone and give you a big hug. Please do not give up hope. Keep trusting and have faith. You got this!!!”
No word on how long her maternity leave will be or how many more appearances viewers can expect to see her over video chat, but with Chelsea away helping her mother Anita (Catherine Bach), the story is firmly in place to give her as much time as needed. Soap Hub joins all of Melissa Claire Egan’s fans in congratulating her and Katrosar on their adorable new baby.
