As Dr. Elena Dawson on The Young and the Restless, Brytni Sarpy helps people. Off-screen, the actress is exhibiting that same desire as she prepares to help support a very worthwhile cause. Read on to see what she had to say about this cause that is near and dear to her heart.
Brytni Sarpy recently shared on social media the news that she’s taking part in the 2021 Malibu Triathlon to support pediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
“For more than five decades the physicians, researchers and staff at the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute (CBDI) at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles have been saving children’s lives and working to increase cure rates through innovative clinical care and research programs, academic excellence and global leadership,” Sarpy shared on her fundraising page.
As Y&R fans may know, the show has addressed cancer on the show. Original series character Jennifer Brooks (Dorothy Green) died of breast cancer back in the 1970s. Years ago, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) fought it, and more recently Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) has been battling it.
“The CBDI offers access to the latest treatment options being tested in clinical trials through our participation in national and international research consortia,” adds Sarpy. “Each year, the CBDI enrolls more than 1,612 children in approximately 180 clinical trials and other research studies. I hope you’ll join me in support of pediatric cancer research with a donation to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
“Your charitable gift will make a difference in the lives of many young patients and their families,” the TV doctor notes. “Any amount, big or small, will be greatly appreciated and will help us create hope and build healthier futures for the families of our area and beyond. Thank you!”
Sarpy joined Y&R in 2019 after a stint as Valerie Spencer on General Hospital. The character of Elena Dawson helped fill the void left in Devon’s (Bryton James) love life following the death of his beloved Hilary (Mishael Morgan). While things didn’t work out with Elena and Devon, off-screen, their portrayers are happily dating.
