Shemar Moore and Obba Babatundé have much in common. Each actor has won a Daytime Emmy for their respective roles as Malcolm Winters and Julius Avant on The Young and The Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. Now, they play son and father on S.W.A.T.

Horsing Around With Shemar Moore and Obba Babatundé

It appears that Moore’s S.W.A.T. character Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson is going to be doing some horseback riding based on a few recent posts. The actor got some instruction from his TV dad who helped Moore with some riding tips.

“Hondo Eastwood in the Buildin,” Moore shared in a post. “#training #horseriding #hollywood.” In another, he shared that hopping on a horse isn’t like riding a pony. “This ain’t no PONY … @obbababatunde tryin to turn me into a cowboy.”

“Let’s ride!!! … and somebody get me a silver belly,” Moore posted after some horseback riding lessons. “@obbababatunde.” In a video, Moore recaps the advice Babatundé gave him on becoming a proficient rider. “Light on the left [rein], pull on the right [one to] slow him down,” Moore said.

“I’m so proud of you man,” Babatundé told his TV son. Moore also doled out some praise. “Who can stand like this at 70 with a cowboy hat on and make you believe it?” he rhetorically asked. “Not me! Look at him. Look at him! He’s not even trying to be fly.”

Babatundé has suggested to Moore that he get a silver belly cowboy hat to help complete his look. “I’m going to get [one],” Moore said, adding he wouldn’t be filming any scenes without one.

Shemar Moore played Malcolm on Y&R starting in 1994, making the scene as Neil Winters’ (Kristoff St. John) half-brother. The two siblings mended fences and their relationship survived despite Malcolm fathering a daughter, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), with Neil’s wife Dru Winters (Victoria Rowell). Moore exited Y&R in 2001. Vowing to always hold Y&R close to his heart, Moore returned for an extended run in 2004-05. He reprised Malcolm again in 2014 and in 2015 and of course returned to Genoa City to honor his TV brother and real-life good friend/mentor, Kristoff St. John, after his passing in 2019.

Obba Babatundé originated the role of B&B’s Julius in 2015. He played the part of Maya’s (Karla Mosley) disapproving father. He reprised the role last year to talk to former son-in-law Zende (Delon de Metz) about his marriage to Julius’s daughter Nicole (Reign Edwards) falling part.
