Five minutes after Neil and Devon decided to go into business together – poof! – they bagged a huge deal on The Young and the Restless (YR). Or should we say on Fantasy Island?
Because seriously – in what world would a supposedly successful conglomerate sell their business to a startup that just formed, probably hasn’t even rented/bought a workspace yet, and seemingly has zero on staff besides the two heads?
Soap operas are notorious for getting business stories all wrong. You can’t blame the writers – they’re creative folks, probably never having stepped foot in the corporate world – or even if they have, they know the details can be a bit dry for an audience when you’re trying to keep them entertained.
While Neil (Kristoff St. John) certainly has many years of experience working for the likes of Jabot and Newman, he also had a large staff that helped him get the job done.
Still, he does obviously have the chops and the network to be a mover and shaker, but no man is an island.
Devon, (Bryton James) on the other hand, just has experience (and is new to it at that) of being the heir to the Chancellor fortune.
He showed tremendous judgment buying an unbelievably expensive sports car and then getting so upset he totaled it and almost got himself killed.
But, that’s no matter. Apparently, a couple of years simply knowing he was related to the great Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) was enough experience for Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams) to sign over her company to him.
Which begs the question – if this is how Dina makes decisions, why in the world is her company successful? And how long will it be before Victor (Eric Braeden) ends up with the whole shebang? Because in the end, Victor always wins, right?!
