Back in 1990, one of the baddest women in daytime soaps was the character of Sheila Carter on The Young and the Restless, portrayed by Kimberlin Brown.
Carter was one of the best villainesses to ever grace the town of Genoa City. Her schemes were lowdown and dirty. One of her most memorable was when she attempted to switch the baby of her lover’s wife with a black market child and pass it off as her own.
Lauren Vs. Sheila
When the character came to town, she seduced Dr. Scott Grainger (Peter Barton), who had recently split from his wife, rich-girl Lauren (Tracey E. Bregman).
During their affair, Carter became pregnant with their love child. But after she had a devastating miscarriage, Sheila didn’t tell her lover and faked a pregnancy for the remaining nine months. Coincidentally, Scott’s wife Lauren was pregnant at the time, also with his baby.
After Lauren delivered their child, Sheila left town so Scott wouldn’t be wise as to her next horrific move. She purchased a baby from the black market and switched the stolen baby with Lauren’s child, so she would have Scott’s biological child, knowing he would ask for a paternity test.
And Her Plan Unravels…
Although her plan seemed airtight, it began to unravel when her mother was the first to attempt to blow the whistle on her scheme.
In order to keep her quiet, the diabolical Sheila had her institutionalized. But what she didn’t plan on was the doctor who assisted Sheila through her miscarriage telling Scott how sorry he was about the loss of his child.
Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) also became suspicious of the circumstances regarding Sheila’s pregnancy.
To escape prosecution, Sheila faked her death and left Genoa City. Share your thoughts! Leave a comment in the section below or go to Soap Hub’s Facebook fanpage and join the conversation about all your favorite soaps!
