On The Young and the Restless, Lily Winters just took over a major corporation with her new job at Chancellor Industries. But, despite her new powerful position, she’s still mostly stuck propping up Billy Abbott amid his struggles.
Young and the Restless Relationship Is Not Goals
Although the soap seems to feel that Billy (Jason Thompson) and Lily (Christel Khalil) serve as relationship goals for viewers, we beg to differ. Instead of scheming with Billy against Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle) and worrying about his future, Lily should be focused entirely on making her mark at Chancellor. Jill Foster Abbott Atkinson (Jess Walton) entrusted her with a company she might not be fully qualified to run, so Lily needs to work extra hard to prove herself.
While Billy managed to keep himself from his traditional form of spiraling out of control, he’s still obsessed with taking down Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). Unfortunately, Billy’s self-destructive tendencies toward Adam have never served him well, and there’s no way for this to end positively. Instead of learning, Billy continues with a different version of the same story time after time.
Lily Winters Needs to be Centered
We expected that Lily wouldn’t put up with Billy’s latest Young and the Restless obsession, but instead, she’s joining him in his plan. It’s surprising that instead of calling Billy on his mess, she joined him in the scheme. Far from being a supportive partner, Lily is enabling her boyfriend’s toxic addictions, which could lead to his downfall. That’s not like her, and the storyline isn’t about Lily. Instead, she serves as a prop for Billy.
We’d rather see Lily dealing with her own drama instead of playing a part in Billy’s. Sneaking around spying on Adam and lying to Victoria isn’t the sign of a driven CEO. Lily is barely even a person in Genoa City outside of Billy and his machinations against Adam and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). We hope to see better for Lily soon.
