Young and the Restless Neil Winters Flashback Highlights What’s Missing

The Young and the Restless created yet another storyline where Devon Hamilton planned to be the biological father of a child he wouldn’t necessarily get to raise. Thankfully, because of Devon’s previous storyline with Hilary Curtis, the show had footage of Neil Winters giving Devon some fatherly advice about parenting. It’s just too bad that the daytime drama isn’t as heartfelt and emotional these days.

Young and the Restless: Neil Helps Devon

Once again, Devon (Bryton James) finds himself entangled with a child. He signed a contract with Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) to be the biological dad to her and Chance Chancellor’s son, Dominic. But, of course, just like his late father, Neil (Kristoff St. John), warned him, he doesn’t have everything figured out just because of a contract.

In a seamless memory, after Abby left Dominic with Devon and Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan), he remembered the words his father told him when he planned a similar baby contract with Hilary Curtis (Mishael Morgan).

“Business. See, you can put it away at the end of the day. Or, you can go on vacation. Or, you can quit,” Neil noted. “But a child? That’s day in and day out. Every second of every day.”

Chagrined, Devon listened to his dad ask him what he’d do if the child ever truly needed him. Then, Neil also waxed poetic about the love and sweetness you receive when you parent a child. Of course, he was missing all those things with Dominic until Abby dropped him off for an undetermined amount of time.

The Feeling’s Gone

The flashback reminded us of all that’s missing on The Young and the Restless these days. Kristoff St. John truly touched us with Neil’s feelings. In his advice, we heard all the good and the bad he’d been through with both Devon and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), even though he didn’t mention either by name.

These days, the soap seems to mostly miss the mark when it comes to evoking real emotions. Things feel stilted and forced in many cases. The storylines are disjointed and don’t make sense, even in the soap opera world. We adored seeing Neil in Devon’s memory, and we loved how his advice applied beautifully to Devon’s current situation with Dominic. However, it made us miss the days when we felt genuinely moved while watching the daytime drama.
