The Young and the Restless is typically the most-watched daytime drama. The show gained the top spot and remained there because of compelling storytelling. Unfortunately, lately, the drama in the storylines has been lacking. For instance, the soap missed an opportunity with the whole mystery woman spying on Billy Abbott.
Young and the Restless Snoozer
When we first glimpsed the mystery woman, it felt exciting. Who was she? Perhaps a brand new character sneakily rolling into Genoa City? Even better, we dared hope she was somebody unexpected from the past, returning to stir up the drama before the holidays.
The most obvious possibility (and therefore not at all soapy) was Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). After all, she’d already spied on Billy (Jason Thompson) for Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). However, surely Y&R wouldn’t be so predictable as to make the mystery woman Sally…surely not!
Sally Spectra Deserves Better
Alas, that’s precisely what the soap opera did. Super sleuth (we just made that up) Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson) outed Sally at Society. But, of course, that came after Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) let Billy know she thought the woman in the blonde wig was the redheaded fashion designer, too.
At this point, the best thing about the storyline is that Sally (and Courtney Hope) rock the blonde just as wonderfully as the red (which we love). It was interesting to see her sporting a new look. Perhaps, tragically, Sally and Adam have no clue that they’re somehow playing right into Billy’s master plan. Maybe that’s a little dramatic. However, for a storyline that could’ve had several different exciting possibilities, we felt let down that they took the most obvious route.
