Though he’s not warming up his pipes in anticipation of returning to The Young and the Restless, Michael Damian remains booked and busy. His latest project, which is a family enterprise, will see the beloved actor take an important behind-the-scenes role – and unite him with a certain flame-haired actress — Lindsay Lohan — who got her start on a soap opera!
YR’s Michael Damian Helming Lindsay Lohan Feature
The yet-to-be-titled film is being billed as a holiday rom-com, and according to Netflix, it features Lohan, whose budding acting career was launched via NBC’s Another World, as a “newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress,” who develops amnesia after being injured in a skiing accident.
She’ll be rescued by a “handsome, blue-collar lodge owner and his precocious daughter,” and in the days leading up to Christmas, strong bonds will develop between the trio.
The Yuletide special will be directed by its co-author Janeen Damian, while husband Michael Damian, who contributed to the script, will serve as producer alongside MPCA’s Brad Krevoy and Rivera Films. Production is scheduled to begin in November 2021. No further casting has been announced. Variety was the first to break the casting news.
Damian took to Instagram to announce that he and Janeen were “thrilled to be making the next @lindsaylohan Holiday movie for @netflix.”
Fan response was immediate and overwhelmingly positive, but perhaps the most enjoyable message came courtesy of Damian’s former YR co-star Beth Maitland (Traci Abbott) who posted, “Does she need a mommy?! MD?! I’d do a lot to hang out with you and Janeen again! Xxx. Congrats!”
Damian and Maitland joined the cast of YR in 1980 and 1982 respectively. For years, the two were linked by their characters’ occupation – he was the leader of a rock ‘n roll band in which she crooned – a subsequent deep and abiding friendship, and quickie marriage undertook in order to provide a name for the baby Traci found herself carrying.
Though Maitland continues to recur on the CBS soap, Damian hasn’t put in an appearance since 2013 — though fans would certainly welcome Danny Romalotti back anytime. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
