It’s been a couple of years since Loren Lott left The Young and the Restless and her role as Devon Hamilton’s younger sister, Ana, but the adorable actress has certainly been keeping busy.
Not only was the one-time American Idol contestant a part of the acclaimed Broadway revival of Once on This Island, filling in as Ti Moune when lead Hailey Kilgore suffered a foot injury, but the actress has also appeared in the OWN TV series, Cherish the Day, created and produced by Ava DuVernay, and was part of films Favorite Son and Renegades: Ominara.
And more big things are on the horizon for this rising star. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lott has been cast in a new BET+ drama called The Porter, currently shooting in Winnipeg.
“THE NEWS IS OUT! I’m so excited to announce that I will be playing Lucy on the biggest black led show Canada has ever filmed; THE PORTER! What an honor! I love Lucy (teehee),” gushed the excited actress on her official Instagram page. “And I get to sing and dance! What a dream!”
Created by Arnold Pinnock and Bruce Ramsay with Annmarie Morais and Marsha Greene serving as writers and showrunners for the eight-part series, the drama is set in the 1920s and inspired by real events. The official description of The Porter notes the series follows the journeys of four ambitious souls who hustle, dream, cross borders, and confront barriers in the fight for liberation—on and off the railways that crossed North America.
Two porters — one who pushes to create the first-ever Black union and the other who chases power on the wrong side of the law, both aim to free themselves and their families from oppression. Lott will play Lucy, a talented, yet headstrong performer, who pursues the spotlight as she battles shadeism and a musical instinct out of step with the times.
Oluniké Adeliyi also stars as Queenie, a seductive and sinister Chicago crime boss. The Porter cast also includes Aml Ameen, Ronnie Rowe Jr., and Mouna Traoré. You can see more of what Lott has to say in her post below. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
