The Young and the Restless Star Daniel Goddard Celebrates His Birthday

Cane may have been divorced by his wife Lily and turned down by the mature Traci Abbot with whom he had developed feelings for but actor Daniel Goddard certainly has a reason to celebrate.

That’s because he was born on August 28, 1971, in Sydney, Australia, which means that this talented performer is turning 48 years old today! Goddard — a self-confessed nerd who enjoyed quantitative mathematics, mechanical engineering, and chess — was well on his way to completing a degree in finance before he decided to switch gears and join the Ensemble Actors Studio in Sydney.

In 1995, he was cast by producers of the hit Australian soap opera Home and Away and joined the series for a six-week stint as the violent and steroid abusing Eric Phillips. Afterward, Goddard left Australia and spent two years working on archaeological digs.

In 1998 he moved to Los Angeles and was quickly snapped up by a modeling agent who booked him assignments with Calvin Klein and Dolce & Gabbana.

That same year, Goddard landed the role of Dar on the internationally syndicated action/adventure series BeastMaster. The program premiered in October of 1999 and aired until 2001 and Goddard appeared in all 66 episodes.

After BeastMaster ended, Goddard continued to act and he made appearances on primetime series including Monk and Wild Card. He also starred as the primary antagonist in the superhero film Lightspeed.

In January of 2007, Goddard joined the cast of the CBS daytime drama The Young and the Restless. Initially, he was presented as the long presumed dead Chancellor heir Phillip III but he was later revealed to be a con artist named Cane Ashby.

When Goddard was fired in 2011 and his character was seemingly murdered an intense fan campaign resulted in the actor being immediately rehired. Since then Goddard has remained a key player in the goings-on in fictional Genoa City.
