The Young and the Restless has done the inexplicable – it wrote off charismatic leading man Daniel Hall.
His character, Scott, was last seen visiting Abby (Melissa Ordway) in Paris, where he announced he quit Newman and the pair discussed what went down between them. Abby countered by getting Victor (Eric Braeden) to sell Hashtag to Scott, but urged him to relocate the company.
Then, the pair said an awkward goodbye that felt like it could be their last scene together.
Terrifying Past
Say It Isn’t So! Hall’s March 2017 introduction to Y&R was one of daytime’s all-time most dramatic. Has there ever been another character who was held hostage in a war zone and released for 10 million dollars ransom, that was graciously paid by Victor Newman (Eric Braeden)?
Scott’s time in captivity made him one of daytime’s most compelling characters — a heroic reporter who survived a harrowing ordeal.
He was scruffy, laid back, and a little rough around the edges — and fans welcomed him with open arms.
All About Family
With Max Ehrich off the canvas as Lauren (Tracy Bregman) and Michael’s (Christian LeBlanc) son and Greg Rikaart gone as Michael’s brother, Kevin, the happily married Baldwins had no real family to worry about. Scott’s return gave the couple someone to fret over, protect and, occasionally, nurture.
Sure, Scott’s a full-grown man, but he’ll always be Lauren’s first-born child, and their special mother/son bond was one of the show’s best.
Man in the Middle
Although Scott initially found love with Sharon (Sharon Case), viewers saw the writing on the wall between him and Abby (Melissa Ordway) from day one. The two characters loathed each other at first sight, which always translates to passion on soaps.
Just as the Sharon/Scott/Abby triangle exploded – Sharon learned Scott kissed Abby on New Year’s Eve and that they’d had sex – two of the trio were shipped out of town. Abby’s absence is due to Ordway’s maternity leave, but Scott’s doesn’t make sense, considering all that’s left to play with Sharon and the rest of the Newmans.
Hopefully, once Abby returns, the soap will come to its senses and bring Scott back with her. There’s plenty of great story left to tell around the talented Hall.
