Why Victoria Needs A Stand-Alone Young and the Restless Episode

Victoria Newman got an earful when she learned that her fiancé Ashland Locke was born Bobby DeFranco on The Young and the Restless. After the real Ashland was in a fatal car accident as a teen, Bobby assumed Ashland’s name and identity. Despite this, she still has plans to wed the media mogul.

The Young and the Restless Spotlight

Victoria (Amelia Heinle) blasted her brother Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) for digging into Ashland’s past. In fact, Victoria was so furious she kicked him out of her office and uninvited him to her wedding to Bobby Ashland. Nick shot back that Victoria won’t admit it to him but she has to be harboring some concerns about Ashland in light of his revelation.

The look on Victoria’s face confirmed Nick’s statement. Clearly, this is one bride-to-be who needs to re-think her future. What better way for the character to do that than for the show to do a stand-alone Victoria-centric episode? Young and the Restless specializes in these types of programs, most recently writing one for Peter Bergman’s Jack Abbott, who examined his feelings for Phyllis Summers.

Some Self-Examination

Victoria would do well to take a look at her life. How much of her relationship with Ashland is a result of being on the rebound? As her ex, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), has moved on with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil). Also, Victoria knows that Ashland is dealing with a fatal disease.

Marrying a dying man may be noble in the sense she’s giving him some happy months but has Victoria truly thought about what it will be like if Ashland lives? Of course, she’ll be happy but if there’s a part of her that’s thinking she’s only going to be his bride for a short period of time, she may be in for a big awakening. (Do soaps give such complicated backstories to short-term characters?)

In the last few years, Victoria’s dealt with a lot of violence in her life. Her ex-husband, J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill), played mind games with Victoria while they were reconciled and he punched out a wall, causing her to fear for her safety. After that, she was stabbed by Amanda Sinclair’s (Mishael Morgan) ex-boyfriend after he mixed up the two women.

The Young and the Restless could explore Victoria’s unresolved issues and history when it comes to men. She played obvious games with her ex, Billy, and his new love Lily using her own children to disrupt their budding romance earlier this year. It might have been partially subconscious but Victoria should be mature enough at this point in her life to be happy for Billy. If she wants him back, she should let him know. More importantly, she should let Ashton know.

Victoria Newman’s Friends And Family

A stand-alone Victoria episode would likely include her parents – Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), her siblings Nicholas, Abby Newman-Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway), and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). Y&R once gave Morrow a Nick-centric episode in which he was visited by all the women in his life including pre-Sharon Rosales’s (Sharon Case) girlfriend Amy (Julianne Morris) and Sharon’s ex-pal Grace (Jennifer Gareis).

Y&R could reach out to Victoria’s other exes including Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck) and the late Ryan McNeil (Scott Reeves) to reprise their roles so that Victoria could explore her psyche and figure out why she makes the choices that she does. Only then might she be able to enter a union with Ashland with a clear conscience and open heart.

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
