It is becoming painfully obvious to viewers that Sharon Collins Rosales needs her own storyline on The Young and the Restless. Lately, the soap has relegated her to Crimson Lights, doling out sage advice and drinks to different characters who stop by for coffee.
Nearly all of Sharon’s (Sharon Case) scenes serve as fillers. Sure, she checked in on Abby Newman-Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) when Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) was presumed to have died in the line of duty. However, their short talk never went anywhere, and she didn’t end up taking Abby as a client.
It’s strange that they turned Sharon into a therapist a few years ago, and then the writers still have her primarily working at the coffee house for the most part. We’d love to see Sharon open up her own practice or maybe work with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) at the low-cost clinic on Young and the Restless. As it is, lately, all Sharon does is prop up other storylines and stay up-to-date on her children’s lives.
Another problem with Sharon is that she and Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) haven’t been shown developing their relationship. Even during her breast cancer storyline, the writers wrote Rey as paternal and controlling towards Sharon.
Now, Sharon is at such a loss for what to buy her husband of nearly a year for Christmas. She’s so desperate for ideas that she even asked Rey himself and turned to Esther Valentine (Kate Linder) for what he might like. Huh?!
It’s time for the writers to either deepen Sharon and Rey’s relationship or put her in a new one. The character and actress are too beloved by fans to waste simply pouring coffee and recapping the plot. Here’s hoping we get to see Sharon take on a front-burner storyline in 2022.
